"You are Bugging me!”
Luke 18:1-8
This week’s text is known as the widow’s might.
Jesus’ parable teaches us about the nature of justice and the work it requires. The widow in this story is without privilege, yet she is not without power. She uses her faith and her voice tirelessly.
Each time she addresses the judge, she proclaims—
to him and to all who listen—her worth and dignity.
She refuses to give up on what is right or to give up on herself. By the world’s standards, she appears deficient; but by the standards of God’s Kingdom, she stands as an example of relentless persistence and quiet confidence in the face of empire.
Through her, Jesus teaches that justice is within reach—
but we must commit ourselves to that truth and labor faithfully toward it, no matter what.
